Chaturanga Workshop with Jazz - Spring 2025

Chaturanga Dandasana is much more than just a pushup! Translated, the yoga position is called the 'four-limbed stick'. Quite clear when you look at the position: a stick standing on hands and feet (four limbs)!

Chaturanga needs and teaches stability and strength - both physically and mentally. Thus, this asana is an absolute foundation for the doktor yoga style! A stable, technically clean Chaturanga is the ideal starting position for Arm Balances and Inversions (headstand, handstand, forearm stand..). The wrists are strengthened as well as the muscles of the arms, shoulders, abdomen and back. In this workshop Jazz will show you with a lot of knowledge and humor how to avoid the most common mistakes. You will learn the correct alignment, mechanics and anatomy of the Chaturanga, how to warm up the wrists properly, variations for beginners, how to use aids, etc... An essential workshop for all yoga practitioners!

Crunches and sit-ups for a strong core? Or would you prefer classic pelvic floor exercises? In this workshop, we will focus entirely on our core and find out together what a "strong core" actually is and when it plays a special role. We will learn how to train the core effectively and what to pay particular attention to during training.

To gain a better understanding of our own core, we will combine theoretical knowledge of anatomy and physiology with practical exercises. We will familiarize ourselves with the functions of the deep structures of the core, train our body awareness and experience the power of our core through targeted and mindful movements.

A healthy, strong core is not only important for yoga, Pilates or other sports, but also plays an important role in everyday life. The right 'core' training is particularly important for preventing or alleviating pelvic floor problems (which can affect both women and men).

You see other yogis in the class who suddenly lift off the floor in a criss-cross pattern and think to yourself, "Cool! I'd like to do that too, but how"? Julian shows you and takes you step by step into the air. Included in this time's lesson are "crow", "sidecrow" and "flying splits/scissors" (= Eka Pada Koundinyasana I and II). With the necessary background information on the technique and fun drills to get you started, we'll turn "impossible" into "already possible" so that you can use your new skills in the classroom in future and have even more fun.

  • Warm-up: First warm up and activate the right muscle groups.

  • How-To: We take our time to discuss technology and alignment.

  • Let's go: let's take off! With the right preparation, we create the basis for overcoming fears and taking big steps towards your sense of achievement.

Gain a sound understanding of the anatomy of the thoracic spine, cervical spine and shoulders and how they interact.

Common complaints such as shoulder pain and neck tension can be improved or avoided through conscious movement and alignment in yoga.

Overview of the structure of the joints, their function, the relevant moving muscles and tendons as well as the function of the intervertebral disc and the rotator cuff and how you can incorporate this into your alignment and cueing.

In this 3-hour workshop, we dive deep into the fascinating world of human anatomy and explore how different structures of the body - such as muscles, tendons and bones - work in the yoga practice. Yoga teachers and advanced practitioners will get a clear overview of the different functions, their role in movement and how they work together in the body.

Workshop Content:

  • Basics of human physiology

    Here we create an overview of the interplay between bones, muscles and tendons. You will learn how these tissues carry us through the asanas and which physiological processes take place during yoga practice. We get an overview of the anatomical structure of the different joints (shoulder, spine, hip, knee) and how this influences the yoga practice.

  • Injury prevention and dealing with common complaints

    Learn how to prevent and deal with injuries such as yoga butt, piriformis syndrome, shoulder problems and knee pain. The correct alignment and adjustment of asanas plays a key role in this.

Aim of the workshop:

This workshop provides you with in-depth knowledge of human anatomy and physiology. After the workshop, you will be able to apply this knowledge directly to your yoga practice. You will learn how to prevent injuries and safely deal with discomfort in order to guide your students through their yoga practice in the best possible way. This workshop is designed to be practical and offers the perfect balance of theory and practical exercises as well as individual questions.

About Nils.

Nils is a passionate physiotherapist and yoga teacher from Klagenfurt am Wörthersee. Nils' yoga classes incorporate his expertise in health, anatomy and rehabilitation. He combines scientific knowledge with his yoga practice.

He is committed to helping people understand their bodies holistically and develop their full potential. Various further training courses in sports physiotherapy, visceral osteopathy, respiratory physiotherapy and biomechanics round off this.

In his free time, Nils practises yoga and many other sports such as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, climbing and cycling.

We launched Yoga Community Day in 2022, and we are delighted to be celebrating our passion together again this year: Yoga!

Yoga stands for union and that's exactly what we want to reflect as a yoga community. That's why we're opening our doors to you on October 26: The program includes a wide variety of classes for just €5 each! We want to take the meaning of community to a new level. On this day, we will yoga, breathe, sweat, laugh and relax together and take time to chat after the classes. Because one thing is clear to us: if more people practiced yoga, the world would definitely be an even better place!

17:30 - 19:30: Embodied Harmony Masterclass
In this transformative yoga masterclass, Alex will guide you through the dance of finding movement in stillness and stillness in movement. This class is not just a sequence of postures; it is a journey to explore the delicate balance of playfulness and the profound depth of practice.

Guided by a deep anatomical understanding, Alex's classes transcend the physical boundaries of asanas. As you navigate through the fluid transitions and intentional stillness, you'll uncover the essence of yoga, to witness the beauty of balance, and to cultivate a practice that extends beyond the mat. 

Saturday, 7th of September:
11:00 - 13:30: The Initiation - Handstand Exploration
Getting upside down can be a tricky experience! Hence overcoming the fear and developing the adequate physical support are going to be your main allies on this fun journey. In this introduction to handstand, you will build the components of a solid foundation for balance. Using partner work, you will understand body positioning, arm support and how to use your core and legs for a steady and fruitful progression. Finally, Alex will show you how challenging the simple straight handstand with various shapes and transitions can help us find ease and a sense of comfort in our practice. Alex will assist you in finding which approach suits you best on this journey, and how to make it a fun and enjoyable process.


15:00 - 17:30: Motion Creation - Hip Mobility

Join Alex in this unique workshop that seamlessly intertwines hip mobility, strength practice, and the heart-centered path of Bhakti yoga. Set aside the confines of the traditional yoga mat as we collectively challenge the boundaries imposed by its four corners. In doing so, we aim to expand the regions of our brain associated with creative motion, fostering a deeper connection to the artistry within our practice.

Throughout the workshop, we'll delve into efficient techniques for enhancing flexibility, providing accessible approaches regardless of your experience level. You will learn to integrate mobility and flexibility training into your yoga practice, with insights into anatomy and physiology. We'll conclude by shifting back into the intuitive realm of the body, through chanting and shared moments of bonding.

Sunday, 8th of September:
11:00 - 19:00: Hands-On Wisdom: Insights into Alignment and the Power of Touch
Join Alex on a transformative journey of hands-on wisdom, where science converges with the art of touch. About Alex Perez

Alex is a yoga teacher and a licensed medical doctor. Over the course of his apprenticeship, Alex developed his own way of teaching yoga, a non-rigid and modern form based on a scientific understanding of movement and of the body. His classes contain elements from many styles of yoga along with his unique touch of creativity and play.
